🏆 PROUD MOMENT FOR GBPS CHESS ♟️

This is Evan de Wet, representing South Africa at the FIDE World Cadets Cup 2026 in Batumi, Georgia — his very first international tournament, and his first time on a plane, out of the country, and away from home.

Over eleven rounds against players from all over the world, Evan fought hard — four wins, some heartbreakingly close losses, and games that went on for over three hours. He also took on the World Cup in Chess Solving on the side, just for the challenge of it.

What a way to start a chess journey. Win or lose, every game at this level is a lesson, and Evan brought every bit of that learning home with him.

So proud of this young man and everything he represents for our school and our country. 🇿🇦
